In this edition of our #EcomInsights series, we spoke to Ari Messer, Co-founder and CMO of Littledata, about how a data-driven marketing approach is the best way to succeed in the current market.

Welcome to #EcomInsights, the series where we speak to the industry’s best-known tech tools and platforms about how brands can tackle challenges facing the ecommerce industry.
In particular, we’re looking to ecommerce experts to address the problems presented by the current economic climate, offering advice to help brands tackle rising customer acquisition costs, boost retention and maximise the lifetime value of their customers. This time, we spoke to Littledata about how most of the time, data is the answer.
Tell us about Littledata.
Littledata is the top ecommerce data platform for modern DTC brands. Since launching our first Shopify app from our London HQ in 2017, we've continued scaling around the world to bring merchants accurate data in the tools they already use, especially Google Analytics.
How can a data-driven marketing approach drive the growth of ecommerce brands?

Let's cut to the chase: A data-driven approach to growth is the only way to succeed in the current market. Our core message around being inspired by data hasn't changed since the beginning.
A lot of brands get confused by the sheer amount of data available, rather than using it to their advantage. So we recommend focusing on fewer metrics, while making sure that the data backing up those metrics is 100% accurate!
To combat the rising costs of customer acquisition, many brands are shifting their focus towards retention in 2023. How can they utilise data to enhance their retention efforts?
Littledata automatically tracks complete customer lifetime value data (LTV), including one-off orders and subscriptions. We recommend looking at LTV by channel to increase retention from your most profitable channels, whether those are paid channels, organic channels, or a mix of both.
What advice would you give brands to tackle the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis as we enter the new year?
Take the long view of growth: build community now so we can continue to support each other.
